Ravens-49ers: Which brother wins?

NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? The San Francisco 49ers never have tasted defeat in a Super Bowl, going 5-0. It's the most impressive mark for any franchise in the big game.

Baltimore also is undefeated, with the Ravens winning their only appearance, in 2001.

Someone will have the Super Bowl blahs for the first time after Sunday's title game in the Superdome.

The Ravens (13-6), who are 3? -point underdogs, are on one of those runs reminiscent of recent NFL champions. Indeed, the New York Giants reached the Super Bowl a year ago in a similar manner, winning a wild-card game at home, then two playoffs on the road, including an overtime thriller.

The Giants got healthy down the stretch, something the Ravens have replicated, particularly on defense where star linebackers Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs are giving vintage performances following injury-shortened seasons.

"I believe we have found a way to believe in each other, and nothing else matters," said Lewis, who will retire after the game. "That is one thing about our sideline. When we are on our sideline, there is only one thing that matters, when this game ends, we will be victorious, and everybody believes the same thing. That's what's been our road, no matter who's been up, who's been down, who's been hurt, who's been injured. We found a way to pick each other up."

Baltimore's path to New Orleans led through New England, where the Ravens fell to the Patriots in last year's AFC title game. But they outscored the Patriots 21-0 in the second half to earn their spot in the Super Bowl.

San Francisco (13-4-1) also came up one win short a year ago, losing to the Giants for the NFC championship. That defeat has driven the 49ers just as much as the Ravens' failure in 2011 lifted them.

These Niners are built around a physical, stingy defense ? that also has been the Ravens' persona for years, although not as much in 2012 as in Lewis' other 17 pro seasons. Linebacker Patrick Willis, who like Lewis wears No. 52 and is a perennial All-Pro, is the anchor.

"As a kid, you grew up watching," Willis said. "Just to have the opportunity to be able to play in this game given my first four years (out of the playoffs), we were at home at this time watching other teams play. Last year we were one game away. To be able to be here, is truly special."

To make it extra special, San Francisco's offense will need to outdo Baltimore's. The Ravens have scored 90 points in three games, and the Niners have 73 in two.

Baltimore's defense has made big plays against Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Now it gets an entirely different type of quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. His combination of running skill, powerful arm and surprising cool for a second-year pro makes him particularly dangerous against the Ravens. Baltimore does not have the fastest defense in the league.

Then again, the 49ers must deal with Joe Flacco, the only QB to win a postseason game in each of his first five seasons. Flacco also has six road playoff victories, a league record.

He's also outplayed Brady, the most successful quarterback of the last dozen seasons, in two straight AFC title games.

But he has his critics because this is his first Super Bowl trip in five tries.

"I think there is definitely a part of all of us that hear things and when somebody doubts what you want to do, you definitely go show them that they may be wrong," he said. "I think for the most part we play for each other and that stuff is kind of a secondary issue."

While the Ravens and 49ers play for each other, the Harbaugh brothers, John of the Ravens and Jim of the 49ers, will go against each other in the first Super Bowl featuring sibling head coaches. They've had fun with the topic this week, but it will be as serious as football can get on Sunday.

With older brother John coming out on top.

Alicia Keys is Blackberry's new Global Creative Director, yep

If you didn't get the hint from the constant appearances during the BlackBerry 10 video promos, BlackBerry loves Alicia Keys. And it looks like she might like it back. Filled with analogies of new lovers and "exclusively dating" a mobile platform, Alicia Keys is now BlackBerry's Global Creative Director. We're not sure what her work remit will be (although there was a mention of app development) but we presume Will.I.Am is somewhere, crying in a pool of money.

Other famous fans that BlackBerry mentioned on stage include Neil Gaiman and Robert Rodriguez -- creative types are looking forward to their new free BlackBerry phone.

NASA's RASSOR excavator robot shapeshifts to haul lunar soil, help make fuel and water

NASA believes our return to the Moon could be sustained by extracting water from the lunar soil to produce air and even fuel. But how to get large amounts of that soil without bringing heavy, failure-prone machinery? The agency's RASSOR (pronounced "razor") excavator robot might do the trick. Rather than wield big scoops, it has a pair of arm-mounted drums that can change the robot's profile and dig with far more efficiency than RASSOR's 100-pound weight would usually allow, using one drum as a grip. The robot's sheer flexibility is also key to its working for the estimated five years of NASA's plans: if the crawler ever overturns or gets caught, it can flip over and keep the main treads out of the ground while clearing out soil-related jams. There's enough refinement needed that a RASSOR 2 follow-up should be in testing around early 2014, but the sequel will be close enough to the ideal design that long-term Moon missions could have the little hauler as a passenger.

Blazers burn Mavs in NBA thriller

DPA

Portland is known as Rip City in NBA circles and LaMarcus Aldridge tore the heart out of the Dallas Mavericks.

Aldridge drilled the tying three-pointer in the closing seconds and the game-winning jumper at the buzzer, sending the Trail Blazers to a thrilling 106-104 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Mavericks on Tuesday night.

"This is what you live for," said Aldridge of the game-winning 10-foot fade-away jumper.

"I was surprised because I caught it so deep and I just turned."

Aldridge finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds, J.J. Hickson had a season-high 26 points with 15 boards for Portland, which rallied from 21 down in the third quarter for its third win in the last four games.

"Just another win," said Blazers coach Terry Stotts with a laugh.

"I can't get tired of appreciating what our team does as far as competing, fighting and never giving up. We've seen it a number of times before this season but it never gets old."

Dirk Nowitzki appeared to be the hero when the German star nailed a triple, giving Dallas a 104-101 lead with 11.4 seconds remaining.

However, Aldridge countered by connecting on his first three of the season, squaring the contest with 4.5 ticks to go.

The Mavericks coughed up the ball when O.J. Mayo was whistled for an offensive foul, setting up Aldridge's heroics.

Following a timeout, Aldridge got the ball on the left side and the two-time All-Star big man buried the difference-maker as time expired and was immediately mobbed by teammates.

"He was smiling like a rookie," Blazers forward Nicolas Batum said of Aldridge in the locker room.

"We needed those two shots - they show people that he really is an All-Star. He is a go-to guy, he's one of the best."

Elsewhere, the LA Lakers secured a third straight win by beating New Orleans 111-106, with Dwight Howard scoring 24 points.

Golden State Warriors were too good for Cleveland 108-95 and Milwaukee Bucks defeated Detroit 117-90.

Michelle Obama wears Wu to the balls again

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Michelle Obama made it a fashion tradition Monday night, wearing a custom-made Jason Wu gown to the inauguration balls. The ruby-colored dress was a follow-up to the white gown Wu made for her four years ago when she was new to Washington, the pomp and circumstance, and the fashion press.

She now emerged in velvet and chiffon as a bona fide trendsetter.

"I can't believe it. It's crazy," said Wu, reached at his Manhattan studio. "To have done it once was already the experience of my life. To have a second time is tremendous."

President Barack Obama also struck a similar style chord to his first-term inaugural balls: He wore a white tie with his tuxedo.

The red halter dress was the only one Wu, who went from fashion insider to household name on this night in 2009, submitted for Mrs. Obama's consideration. He collaborated with jeweler Kimberly McDonald on the jeweled neckline. "For this occasion, it had to be real diamonds," Wu said.

He said he felt the dress showed how he has grown up as a designer ? and how Mrs. Obama's style has evolved to be even more confident.

The first family headed out to inaugural festivities earlier on Monday with Mrs. Obama leading a very coordinated fashion parade in a navy-silk, checkered-patterned coat and dress by Thom Browne that were inspired by a menswear necktie.

The outfit was specifically designed for Mrs. Obama, but Browne said he wasn't 100 percent sure she was going to wear it until she came out with it on at Inauguration. "I am proud and humbled," he said.

The rest of Mrs. Obama's Inauguration Day outfit included a belt from J. Crew, necklace by Cathy Waterman and a cardigan by Reed Krakoff, whose ensemble she also wore to yesterday's intimate, indoor swearing-in ceremony.

Obama wore a blue tie with his white shirt, dark suit and overcoat. Malia Obama had on a plum-colored J. Crew coat with the hemline of an electric-blue dress peeking out and a burgundy-colored scarf, and her younger sister Sasha had on a Kate Spade coat and dress in a similar purple shade.

"It is an honor that Sasha Obama chose to wear Kate Spade New York," said the company's creative director, Deborah Lloyd, in an email to the Associated Press. "She epitomizes the youthful optimism and colorful spirit of the brand. We are so proud to have been a part of this historic moment."

Jenna Lyons, creative director of J. Crew, said it was "a huge point of pride for all of us" to be a part of the day ? as the brand was back in 2009 when the girls wore outfits by CrewCuts, its children's label.

"It's amazing to see the evolution of the family. I love the way Michelle looks. She looks beautiful in something so clean and tailored. It's such an elegant choice," Lyons said, "and they all look so sophisticated! You can see how the girls have grown up in the four years, and they're still so alive and vibrant, but more sophisticated."

The vice president's wife, Jill Biden, wore a gray coat and dress by American designer Lela Rose.

Mrs. Obama has worn Browne's designs for other occasions, including a gray dress with black lace overlay to one of the presidential debates last fall, and she honored him last summer at the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards for his contribution to fashion.

Browne made his name in modern ? very modern ? menswear, but he launched womenswear in 2011. He was in Paris on Monday, just finishing previews for his next menswear collection. The idea to use the tie fabric came to him because he was indeed designing these men's clothes at the same time, he explained.

"I wanted 'tailored' for her. For me, she stands for strength and confidence, and that's what I wanted to design for her," he said.

Simon Collins, dean of the school of fashion at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, said the Obamas dressed in their typical fashion: one that shows pride in their appearance.

"They are a stylish couple and their children look fabulous. Too many people get dressed in the dark," he said. "They show it's good to dress up, take pride in how you look. ... It's a wonderful example for America and the rest of the world."

He also noted that the Obamas seem to understand that the fashion industry is a driving force in the U.S. economy and that its lobby is a powerful one. They don't treat fashion frivolously, he observed.

The first lady "is so supportive of so many American designers," Browne noted.

But Collins said he was a bit surprised the public doesn't pay much attention to the president's wardrobe. He joked that Obama should perhaps try one of Browne's signature shrunken suits ? the ones that show a man's ankles.

At the end of the Inaugural festivities, Mrs. Obama's outfit and accompanying accessories will go to the National Archives.

While the growing trend in gaming keyboards appears to be expensive units with fancy LCD and modular design, the SteelSeries puts its faith in macro and analytical software as well as backlighting features. The SteelSeries APEX makes quite an impression when it comes to key illuminations, boasting 5 independent zones, each capable of 16.8 million colors and 8 levels of brightness. The keyboard has a full complement of 22 macro keys, 10 of which are on the left hand side and the rest sitting above the function row. The APEX offers up to 4 layers (switchable via dedicated keys on the upper left corner) so you get up to 88 macro keys in total. Each macro layer can also have its own color scheme tailored for your gaming needs. APEX's anti-ghosting supports up to 20 concurrent key presses. The crowd jewel of the APEX is perhaps the unified software that manages the latest SteelSeries gaming gear. The latest version keeps track of your keyboard and mouse activities, and later provides a heat map, which details how you can improve efficiency in games or productivity apps (e.g. reduce travel distance between keystrokes). There are other nice touches including 2 extra arrow keys; small bumps on W-key (helping you to find your way back to WASD faster); extra wide space bar; and two set of swappable feet to adjust the tilt angle of the keyboard. Also worth mentioning is that the APEX employs rubber dome-switch membrane to keep the cost down. The APEX will retail for $99 for those who dig shiny lights and don't have a preference for mechanical keyboards.

NTSB rules out excess battery voltage in Boston 787 incident

TOKYO (Reuters) - The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board ruled out on Sunday excess voltage as the cause of a battery fire on the Boeing Co 787 Dreamliner jet operated by Japan Airlines Co (JAL) at Boston airport this month.

Last week, governments across the world grounded the Dreamliner while Boeing halted deliveries after a problem with a lithium-ion battery on a second 787 plane, flown by All Nippon Airways Co (ANA), forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in western Japan.

"Examination of the flight recorder data from the JAL B-787 airplane indicates that the APU (auxiliary power unit) battery did not exceed its designed voltage of 32 volts," the NTSB said in a statement forwarded by a Boeing Japan representative.

On Friday, a Japanese safety official told reporters that excessive electricity might have overheated the battery in the ANA-owned Dreamliner which was forced to make the emergency landing at Japan's Takamatsu airport last week.

U.S. investigators have examined the lithium-ion battery that powered the APU, where the battery fire started in the JAL plane, as well as several other components removed from the airplane, including wire bundles and battery management circuit boards, the NTSB statement said.

Japan Transport Safety Board said it was aware of the NTSB report and would take the U.S. statement into consideration in its probe.

"There's nothing more I can add at this point as we still haven't started our investigation into the battery here," JTSB inspector Hideyo Kosugi told Reuters.

"The NTSB's investigation started earlier. We still haven't taken X-rays or CT-scans of the battery. In our case, both the battery and the surrounding systems are still stored in (Tokyo's) Haneda (Airport) as the third party organization where the Japanese investigation would take place still has not been chosen."

On Tuesday, the U.S. investigating group will convene in Arizona to test and examine the battery charger and download non-volatile memory from the APU controller, the NTSB added.

Japan's GS Yuasa Corp makes batteries for the Dreamliner, while France's Thales produces the control systems for the battery.

Boeing said on Friday it would continue building the carbon-composite 787, but deliveries were on hold until the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approved and implemented a plan to ensure the safety of potentially flammable lithium-ion batteries.

In Washington, the top U.S. transportation official Ray LaHood said the 787, which has a list price of $207 million, would not fly until regulators were "1,000 percent sure" it was safe.

Japan is the biggest market so far for the 787, with ANA and JAL operating 24 of the 290-seat wide-bodied planes. Boeing has orders for almost 850 of the planes.

No sympathy for Armstrong on social media

LONDON (Reuters) - Lance Armstrong's televised doping confession has done nothing to restore his shattered reputation, a study of responses posted to the Twitter social media site showed.

"What was particularly noticeable in our analysis of the Armstrong revelation was the sheer lack of sympathy out there," said Charlie Dundas of sports market research company Repucom.

"The tone of the discussion around the Oprah Winfrey interview highlighted the level of disappointment and anger that exists. It's clear the public are far from ready to forgive Lance Armstrong," he added.

In the interview, Armstrong admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs on his way to his seven Tour de France titles. The Texan also said he hoped a lifetime ban would one day be lifted to allow him to compete in events like marathons.

The Armstrong interview generated 1.9 million Twitter posts between January 14-20, Repucom said. America accounted for more than a quarter of these, with Australia the second most active nation on the site.

NEWS: World of Tanks gets Chinese armor in 8.3 update

Wargaming.net has launched the 8.3 update which brings Chinese armor to the tank simulator MMO World of Tanks. The update is live today in Europe and Southeast Asia, while North America will get the update tomorrow. Korea will see the new Chinese tech tree on the 21st January.

8.3 introduces 17 new tanks from the mid-20th century which featured what Wargaming calls a "hotchpot" of designs, "including the first Japanese-made tank in the game - the Type 97 Chi-Ha. Heavy Soviet influences are reflected in the top-tier tanks, which also include a number of original Chinese models, some of which never went into mass production."

Check out the official 8.3 update trailer in the video below.

Fusion-io brings Fusion ioScale SSD to small, speedy server clusters

Fusionio brings 32TB Fusion ioScale SSDs to sma server clusters

Fusion-io has made a name for its Fusion ioDrive solid-state drives by selling them to the largest of enterprises -- the sort that crave thousands of servers. Not everyone wants that level of computing muscle, though, which is why the pro-grade storage firm is now selling the Fusion ioScale to a much wider audience. Cloud service hosts and other, smaller companies just have to buy a (relatively) paltry 100 or more of the PCI Express-based drives, which include both slim 1.6TB and full-size, 3.2TB versions. Neither will be cheap for datacenters when prices start at $3.89 per gigabyte, although Fusion-io is vowing better deals for those buying in buik. We also suspect that the time saved by moving to fast flash storage could be worthwhile in itself.

For sports fans, the story -- not the victor -- makes the difference in enjoyment

Jan. 15, 2013 ? A new study has concluded that sports fans love to root for a hero and against a villain, but if the game is exciting, they'll enjoy it no matter who wins.

The research, recently published in the Journal of Media Psychology, examines emotional experiences, outcome satisfaction, and enjoyment of athletic events, particularly ones featuring individual athletes rather than team sports.

Lead author Colleen Bee, an assistant professor of marketing at Oregon State University, said the Olympics are a good example of an event where fans often cheer for little-known athletes competing in little-watched sports. The allure for these casual fans is not necessarily the sport itself. The spectacle and inherent drama associated with an athletic event is enough to make fans watch.

"Knowing something about the personal lives and personalities of these athletes gives the casual fan a reason to root for or against someone," Bee said. "The stories matter here. It magnifies the experience of watching the game, and gives people a reason to watch."

In the study, Bee had participants watch speed skating competitions. She confirmed that none of the participants were familiar with the athletes before watching the event. Then she provided participants with one of two fictitious scenarios. In one scenario, an athlete was given heroic qualities such as working with ill children, a commitment to the cause of cancer prevention, dedicating his performance to his mother, and being gracious and considerate. In the second scenario, the athlete was imbued with unfavorable qualities, such as testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, being arrested for public intoxication, and being ungracious and inconsiderate.

She found that viewers of the game rooted for the heroic athlete and of course hoped that the "villain" would lose. Yet, she found that all the study participants reported enjoying the game regardless of the moral qualities of the winning athlete.

"There are people who enjoy watching famous athletes compete even though they may not like them personally, or feel like they aren't good people," Bee said. "Yet, because they are exciting to watch, and in many cases because they have an exciting story, sports fans still enjoy watching them compete."

While the participants felt disappointed when the "villainous" athlete won, and similarly relieved when the heroic athlete won, they all reported enjoying the game despite the outcome.

"Casual sport fans often enjoy the experience of a highly competitive event even when the outcome is not desirable, due to the entertaining and exciting nature of suspense," Bee said, pointing to her last study which found that winning or losing games did not matter so much as whether or not the game was close.

Bee is an expert on sports marketing, particularly in the areas of sports and emotions and gender/consumer responses.

Robert Madrigal, associate professor of marketing at the University of Oregon, is co-author of the study.

Court orders arrest of Pakistani prime minister

ISLAMABAD (AP) ? Pakistan's top court ordered the arrest of the country's prime minister in a corruption case Tuesday, officials said, as a firebrand cleric rallied thousands of people against the government for a second day in the capital.

The Supreme Court's order, which is likely to inflame the already antagonistic relationship between the government and the court, was related to a case involving private power stations set up to provide electricity to energy-starved Pakistan. The judges are investigating allegations that the bidding process was marred by corruption.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry ordered the arrest of several people involved in the case, including Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, who previously served as minister for water and power, said court officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

An adviser to the prime minister, Fawad Chaudhry, said the country's attorney general, Irfan Qadir, called Ashraf to notify him that the chief justice had suggested he be arrested during a hearing into the case. But Qadir expressed doubt that it was an official order and suggested waiting for the written ruling, which should come out later Tuesday.

The adviser said any attempt to arrest the prime minister would be unconstitutional since he enjoys immunity from prosecution while in office.

The court developments could provide ammunition for Tahir-ul-Qadri, a fiery Muslim cleric who is leading a massive protest rally in Islamabad to press for the removal of the government, which he claims is made up of thieving politicians.

The rally called by Qadri, who has rocketed to national prominence after his return from Canada late last year, has galvanized many Pakistanis who say the current government has brought them only misery. But critics fear that Qadri and his demands for election reforms may derail the country's upcoming democratic elections, possibly at the behest of the country's powerful military.

China's homegrown GPS mandated for use in commercial vehicles

Chinas homegrown GPS mandated for use in commercial vehicles

Store-bought clothes are the norm for most people, but there's always one kid at school whose parents insisted on hand-making everything they wore. In this labored metaphor, China's the overbearing matriarch, demanding its progeny adopt Beidou, its made-at-home GPS system to rival GPS, GLONASS and Galileo. The country's ministry of transport is mandating that vehicles used for transporting "dangerous articles," passenger buses and heavy-duty trucks swap out their existing systems for Beidou the next time they're due for an upgrade. Personal drivers escape the current decree, but those in rural areas will be greatly encouraged to make the transition as the country tries to reduce its dependence on Apple Maps western navigation platforms.

CES 2013 HDTV and connected devices roundup

As you may have guessed by scanning our CES 2013 coverage, HDTV -- particularly of the Ultra HD variety -- was kind of a big deal at this year's show. In fact, UHDTV's omnipresence fanned so much reader interest this year that we penned a feature article to put the whole phenomenon into perspective. While that makes for a lively discussion, none of the 4K sets announced at the show are shipping yet, and the few from last year that are available might cost as much as a new car -- or two. To that end, let's head after the break to see all the new TVs, set-top devices, Blu-ray players and the like presented at CES -- including a few you may actually be able to afford.

ACA Loophole Allows Large Health Insurance Premium Increases ...

With so many people still out of work or just scraping by, this isn't good news -- especially since there's so little chance the Republican House will do anything to close this loophole:

Health insurance companies across the country are seeking and winning double-digit increases in premiums for some customers, even though one of the biggest objectives of the Obama administration?s health care law was to stem the rapid rise in insurance costs for consumers.

Particularly vulnerable to the high rates are small businesses and people who do not have employer-provided insurance and must buy it on their own.

In California, Aetna is proposing rate increases of as much as 22 percent, Anthem Blue Cross 26 percent and Blue Shield of California 20 percent for some of those policy holders, according to the insurers? filings with the state for 2013. These rate requests are all the more striking after a 39 percent rise sought by Anthem Blue Cross in 2010 helped give impetus to the law, known as the Affordable Care Act, which was passed the same year and will not be fully in effect until 2014.

In other states, like Florida and Ohio, insurers have been able to raise rates by at least 20 percent for some policy holders. The rate increases can amount to several hundred dollars a month.

The proposed increases compare with about 4 percent for families with employer-based policies.

Under the health care law, regulators are now required to review any request for a rate increase of 10 percent or more; the requests are posted on a federal Web site, healthcare.gov, along with regulators? evaluations.

The review process not only reveals the sharp disparity in the rates themselves, it also demonstrates the striking difference between places like New York, one of the 37 states where legislatures have given regulators some authority to deny or roll back rates deemed excessive, and California, which is among the states that do not have that ability.

New York, for example, recently used its sweeping powers to hold rate increases for 2013 in the individual and small group markets to under 10 percent. California can review rate requests for technical errors but cannot deny rate increases.

Critics, like Dave Jones, the California insurance commissioner and one of two health plan regulators in that state, said that without a federal provision giving all regulators the ability to deny excessive rate increases, some insurance companies can raise rates as much as they did before the law was enacted.

?This is business as usual,? Mr. Jones said. ?It?s a huge loophole in the Affordable Care Act,? he said.

PayDay Loans Online Mag For ProAdvice and Finance News ...

The American business had a serious pressure at the time of political and economic instability and even the fiscal cliff has been resolved and the bill was voted for, businesses appeared to be rather unhappy as a lot of questions were left and you do not need to be rather serious about it.

The main questions that were left unsolved are related to the growing deficit and debt reduction. Yes, there are goals that were solved with the adopted bill but most of them made business people think of the inability of the government to solve the financial and business issues.

Besides, the questions considering the increased taxes are left uncertain and business cannot take serious decisions concerning the investment into different projects and it cannot increase the profitability of the company as they do not know what sums of money they will repay to the government in the form of taxes.

Finally, business companies want to wait till the government would take certain measures and decrease the level of unpredictability in the sphere of taxes and fees.

(AP) ? A photo marked "not to be published" that shows a teenage Diana Spencer before she became Princess of Wales, with a young friend seated beside her, will be featured in an auction this month in New Hampshire.

The photograph might never have been seen publicly until now, RR Auction said.

Stamped February 1981 on the back, the photo was taken around the time Charles, the Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer ended months of speculation and announced they were to be married.

The photo came from the Caren Archive, a major private collection of rare newspapers and other publications, and was purchased seven years ago from the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Bobby Livingston, vice president of RR Auction, said Saturday that neither the auction house nor Caren Archive, knew the identity of the young man in the photo. However, he said he understood that a British newspaper had been able to identify him.

British media have identified the young man as Adam Russell, the great-grandson of former Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin.

In 1981, Diana first told news of her engagement to her friends, then moved out of her apartment Feb. 23 and into Buckingham Palace. What was widely labeled the wedding of the century took place on July 29, 1981, at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1996, and Diana died in a Paris car crash in 1997.

Another Diana photo to be included in the auction is an original 1988 news photo of the princess observing a marriage conflict resolution seminar.

The auction is scheduled for Jan. 17-24 in Amherst.

Americans Fight UN's Agenda 21 - Legal Insurrection

Astute Legal Insurrection readers remarked that much of the ?climate change? dialog in this country seems to be directed at getting citizens to support United Nation?s Agenda 21.

I wanted to offer some insights on this theoretically voluntary action plan that has environmentally protective sustainable development as its supposed goal from Dr. Illeana Johnson Paugh, author of ?U.N. Agenda 21: Environmental Piracy?.? She is an immigrant from Romania, expert in fiscal and monetary matters, and a guest on CANTO TALK most Friday nights (when she covers the state of the national and global economies).

Johnson Paugh recently noted that, ?the war on Agenda 21 just got hotter?.

Thinking Americans understand now what U.N. Agenda 21 is and are not backing down from fighting the anti-American, anti-prosperity, wealth redistribution scheme of the United Nations against our way of life.

The U.N. has deemed commercial agriculture unsustainable and has used taxpayer dollars and local supervisors to re-zone, re-shape, and prohibit land use for local agriculture or building that is not approved by their bio-diversity plan of limiting human habitation ? all in the name of saving the planet?.

Unfair regulatory actions against Martha Boneta, a farmer in Fauquier County, Virginia, ?violate fundamental rights and unfairly restrict her property rights.? Delegate L. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Woodbridge/31st district) plans to strengthen Virginia?s Right to Farm Act and to ?protect farmers against future encroachments by local government.?

Delegate Lingamfelter, who represents four of the Fauquier County?s 20 voting precincts, is planning a press conference to discuss his proposed legislation on January 8, 2013 in Richmond, Virginia. Two prominent property rights advocates will be in attendance, Joel Salatin and Mark Fitzgibbons.

?Martha Boneta?s rights have been wrongly challenged. I am bringing legislation in the 2013 session of the General Assembly to improve the Right to Farm Act here in Virginia, so small farmers like Martha will enjoy fully their property rights. It?s not about demonizing anyone in this controversy. It?s about standing by property rights and our Founder?s vision.?

Johnson Paugh then provides more background on Boneta?s struggles, and notes that thirteen Virginia vintners have filed lawsuits against the same county for not being allowed to serve wine on their premises after 6 p.m. (a special-interest restriction passed to please one vintner who chose to close early.)

It seems that in bureaucratic hands, Agenda 21 can be distorted to be used to control anything at anytime.? However, this fact has not gone unnoticed by citizens across the country.

The power-grab is concerning to Americans of all political persuasions.? There is a website called ?Democrats Against Agenda 21?.? The site is spearheaded by Rosa Koire, a life-long Democrat and Executive Director of the Post Sustainability Institute. She writes:

U.N. Agenda 21 cites the affluence of Americans as being a major problem which needs to be corrected. It calls for lowering the standard of living for Americans so that the people in poorer countries will have more, a redistribution of wealth. Although people around the world aspire to achieve the levels of prosperity we have in our country, and will risk their lives to get here, Americans are cast in a very negative light and need to be taken down to a condition closer to average in the world. Only then, they say, will there be social justice which is a cornerstone of the U.N. Agenda 21 plan.

She was invited to speak at a Tea Party recently on how communities implement Agenda 21: (full video embedded)

It is good to see American unite for their own sustainability.

Audience eS515 Smart Sound Processor brings three-mic support and selective audio capture to phones

Audience announces eS515 Smart Sound Processor

Even if you haven't heard of Audience, there's a very good chance you (or a close friend or family member) have used a product with one of its audio processing chips installed. The company, which prides itself in its noise-cancelling prowess, is taking to CES to launch its latest high-end processor, dubbed the eS515. This particular chip offers a new high-performance, low-power codec subsystem and integrates a handful of impressive features along with it. First on the laundry list of improvements is support for up to three mics on a singular device; while we've seen the three-mic setup on a limited scale in the past (Qualcomm has done it on its development phones), Audience's implementation may be the first to arrive on commercially available phones. Since it's currently sampling to manufacturers, we may not have to wait terribly long.

In addition to the three-mic support, the eS515 also throws in a few other handy tools, such as de-reverb, which is meant to significantly reduce the voice echo users normally experience on speakerphones and in large rooms; a selective audio capture feature called Audio Zoom, which lets you switch back and forth between a bi-directional recording mode and single-direction narrator mode; new hardware-accelerated speech recognition algorithms that's geared to interpret your voice more accurately; and dual-mic noise suppression when taking video. It all sounds pretty tempting, and we're eager to see how well Audience holds up on its claims -- we're still waiting to hear which upcoming devices will have the chip installed, but our guess is that it'll show up on a handful of premium smartphones in the coming year. We've got the press release below for your dissection.
